Interview Experience
NEW

"Afternoon (1-3ish). We had a nice intro slideshow from Martha English (Program Coordinator, I think), then four interview sessions, 20 mins each. Weirdly, we did NOT interview with the PD...Not sure what that was about, but I don't love that. 3 of the 4 faculty were friendly and casual, one was pretty lacking in the personality and friendliness department, and he interrupted a lot. Overall it seems like a good program with strong didactics, decent food stipend and food options (including Starbucks where the food car DOES work), free parking, and stipends for Educational and research things. - They promote a lot of resident autonomy and independence on call, which seems a bit intimidating and overwhelming, but the residents seem to all agree that it is a great way to learn and, ultimately, while tough, will make you the best possible radiologist. - Moonlighting is allowed - recently increased pay per resident request. They're also working on getting additional moonlighting options and possibly even at-home options. - The resident call lounge has exercise equipment which is cool, and free snacks. - Days off are GOOD - They allow 15 days (3 weeks) of vacation plus a week off around either Christmas or New Year, plus 10 sick days (2 weeks), but this can be used for vaca if you don't need it. They also allow you to take individual days rather than requiring that it be an entire week at a time. - All the residents seemed genuinely happy, and even though they all say it's a very high-volume and challenging program, they would choose there again and they still have time for "life". - They have a formal mentoring program plus informal mentoring by senior residents. Residents feel the program is receptive to their recommendations. PD is very approachable and has an open-door policy. - High volume with lots of interesting pathology = good exposure. OVERALL: I think it is definitely a strong program, and I'd be very well trained, but I think it may be more demanding than some other programs, esp with independent call/autonomy. The location is good. Have more IMGs than other programs. Faculty was good for the most part. RATING: 8.5/10"

"The night before, the residents did a Q&A for the interview candidates. The morning of, the program coordinator shared a little bit about the program while waiting for the Program Director to give a powerpoint presentation about the program. We then moved into a waiting room with the other candidates and had the chance to chat with each other and occasionally with the program coordinator. We interviewed with the PD, faculty and the program coordinator. "
