Interview Experience

"Pros: - Great location – could live in the five towns - Pretty good reputation - Large residency class – would make trading for Shabbos relatively easier - ESIR - Good salary - 2 week resident bootcamp - 3 month core exam dedicated period - Great program coordinators - PD seems cool - 3 APDs so lots of longitudinal follow up for residents - Great research opportunities - Green olive is nearby so great kosher food is nearby - The residents I spoke to seemed nice - Not so many fellows - Good volume - Would get great training - Lots of moonlighting opportunities - Really good teaching faculty - Access to lots more opportunities given how vast the northwell system is - Hospitals are tertiary referral centres for the area Cons: - Start call in R1 – like the first day even - Currently starting at 8 am due to covid but historically starts at 7:30 or 7 and probably will go back to that schedule - Lots of call in first two years - A bit of an awkward interview day in terms of my interactions with some of the interviewers - IR day is like 13 hours - Weekend call is 13 hours long – and they said you get it every 3-4 weeks - Short call can go until 10 pm and can be once every week or so "

"The night before, the residents did a Q&A for the interview candidates. The morning of, the program coordinator shared a little bit about the program while waiting for the Program Director to give a powerpoint presentation about the program. We then moved into a waiting room with the other candidates and had the chance to chat with each other and occasionally with the program coordinator. We interviewed with the PD, faculty and the program coordinator. "
