Interview Experience

"This is a program where I also did an elective. We interviewed with 4 people. The Program director, Associate program director, Chairman, and some other dude in charge of running the CRNAs. This program was good, very good. It’s a university based program and they have a lot of support. The attending were bad ass. I spoke to the residents and these guys will fight tooth and nail for you and make the CRNAs do whatever the fuck they want them to do. They have A LOT of cases where you get priority over everything you want. The only thing this program does not see is very much transplant but that is fine in my case. I am interested in cardiac anesthesia and possibly critical care. They have residents that all are matching into fellowship this year with 1/2 in cardiac, some Peds and some pain. They don’t ask medical questions. They literally sit down with you and want to find out if you are someone who can be friendly, funny and just shoot the shit with. Can you hang out with them at 2 in the morning walking around the hospital and talk about sports, movies or whatnot without being weird? The program director is very young so it’s easy to relate to and he’s hysterical. The interview is very laid back. The residents were very cool and will honestly answer any question you have. "

"The night before, the residents did a Q&A for the interview candidates. The morning of, the program coordinator shared a little bit about the program while waiting for the Program Director to give a powerpoint presentation about the program. We then moved into a waiting room with the other candidates and had the chance to chat with each other and occasionally with the program coordinator. We interviewed with the PD, faculty and the program coordinator. "
