"1-hour introduction session + 1-hour "social event" (with various attendings since there are no residents yet) + 3 interviews that are 15 minutes each (with PD, APD, core faculty), all on the same day. The core faculty member was super nice. Although this is a new residency program, the hospital (Sutter Memorial Medical Center) is a large hospital that acts as a tertiary care center, with experienced attendings and diverse pathologies. Cheap cost of living compared to other California programs (2 bedroom apartment average rent is 1738 USD per month), and they have a housing stipend of 7225 US dollars per year. No medical questions asked. Asked questions such as "what are the qualities of a good internist", "what will you do if you don't match", "describe a time when you responded to constructive feedback/tough feedback", "talk about an attending that was not nice to you and how you responded", "talk about a time when you led a team but you did not achieve a good outcome". They mostly interview candidates from California. For IMGs they are interested in your home country residency experience and research experience if any. If you're interested in fellowship, they will ask you what you have already done to prepare for such a fellowship. Pretty good interview overall."
