Program Info
Basic science education includes pathology, anatomy, biomechanics, microbiology, biomaterials, bone physiology and biochemistry. Four residents are accepted for the five–year program annually. Their training is supervised by 16 full–time faculty physicians, a number of part–time faculty and five full–time Ph.D's – trained scientists provide research support. Faculty members in orthopedic research work directly with the residents on basic research skills and clinical projects. The program includes clinical rotations on orthopedic services at the University of Mississippi Medical Center and the G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center. In addition, because of the program's interest in and emphasis on the AO method of internal fixation, all residents attend an AO/ASIF fracture fixation course during their first year.
