Interview Experience

"Pros: - Have a shomer Shabbos protected spot - Excellent training – really strong pathology exposure and trauma - Home program - Lots of frum people in the program - Could live in riverdale - I enjoyed the interviews - I think I made a good impression during the interview - Great fellowship matches - ESIR - In NYC - Pretty good research - I know some of the residents (i.e., Ariel Lewis) - They have a minyan in the hospital - Start at 8 am (vs. 7) - No fellows - Cheap parking at the hospital Cons: - Jacobi isn’t such a nice hospital – kind of have some negative associations from being a med student - It’s a small program – so Shabbos could be tricky if I don’t match into the Shabbos spot - Didn’t really give me an idea of what the call schedule was like - No moonlighting - Start call in R1 (buddy call) - Weekend call is a 12 hour shift (better than Monte though) - No kosher food in the hospital - Am I losing out by not going somewhere new? - 7 weeks of night float in R2 (although may change as they’re working on adding an extra residency slot) "

"The night before, the residents did a Q&A for the interview candidates. The morning of, the program coordinator shared a little bit about the program while waiting for the Program Director to give a powerpoint presentation about the program. We then moved into a waiting room with the other candidates and had the chance to chat with each other and occasionally with the program coordinator. We interviewed with the PD, faculty and the program coordinator. "
