Interview Experience

"- 11/year. Have a TY program - I haven't heard from them, but I sent a letter of interest. - Level I trauma center, transplant center, CA center, VA center, Children's Hospital. High volume - work hard. Lots of independence, including independent call; very little hand holding. - Most facilities downtown are within a close distance of one another. - They offer educational stipends and so forth. Call-prep lecture series. Graduation tracks (the only one I'd do is prob Leadership). - Good attending-resident ratio. - "Big Buddy" program - You're assigned both a faculty and a peer mentor. **Partner w/ One Global Health Initiative** Nicaragua and Uganda - Only as a 4th year, but can get involved prior to this in other ways. - Formal wellness committee/program. Also, have Q&A sessions with residents and PD to discuss concerns/recommendations, etc. Residents said they are responsive to feedback. *Women in Radiology group* - High fellowship acceptance rates in good programs. Many people stay on or come back to MUSC. - Resident Auxiliary - for spouse/significant other support *Very friendly and fun residents, dog-friendly, do activities outside of work often...Work hard, play hard mentality. - Lots of teaching opportunities, but rarely required, if ever. - Schedule: 7-5, almost never stay late. - Good board pass rates, board review course given. - R1 intro course for first month; Food camp: weekly lectures for first six months, given by upper-year residents – more practical knowledge (Ex, tips, and tricks for each rotation, how to be a good resident, etc.) - 6 weeks time off between vaca and sick time. One week around Christmas or New Year's. - Call: doesn't really start until 2nd year...Always 3 people per shift (mix of R levels). 4 wknds/year, and 2 months of overnights, but during that time you really only do 14 nights, so you essentially get 2 extra weeks vaca. The lower-level call is mostly XR and US, upper-level call is more CT and MR. - (+) Moonlighting. - 5 blocks electives, very flexible PGY-5. *Free access to welcome center with pickle ball and so forth, right on site, basically.* - Meals: $60/month - can be used in the cafeteria, Starbucks, Chik-fil-A, and food trucks. Parking is NOT free. - Requirements: 1 QI and 1 research project. Overall, seems like a really good program...But hard work/high volume, very little hand holding, indep call - Good but overwhelming. Rating: 9/9/10"

"The night before, the residents did a Q&A for the interview candidates. The morning of, the program coordinator shared a little bit about the program while waiting for the Program Director to give a powerpoint presentation about the program. We then moved into a waiting room with the other candidates and had the chance to chat with each other and occasionally with the program coordinator. We interviewed with the PD, faculty and the program coordinator. "
