"- HCA Program (TY) - Accepts 13/year. Resident comments are from video only I think. - PD is an IMG, program coordinator was nice but less friendly than many of the programs. They have a hx of accepting IMGs and have an SGU student right now. PD says ideal candidate: Someone who has excellent pt care and communication, good team-work and is there to help out other residents, and is teachable/can accept constructive criticism. He's nice enough, but somewhat down to business and not overly "bubbly" - He does seem very committed to the residents' wellbeing and success though. He indicated (I think) that I was a strong candidate. - They offer 19 weeks of electives! :) 2 weeks of QI. - No formal mentoring program - But all the senior IM residents and the attendings really just step in and naturally mentor us. - Have a formal wellness program with numerous resources to help support residents and reduce burnout. - They have numerous pics of residents doing fun activities like ziplining and so forth. Academic 1/2 days - program gives them half day off to go and do a paid fun activity. Residents say they do a lot of fun stuff together. - Only research requirement seems to be 1 QI project. They have a research director who is there to help residents. - Just over 300-bed hospital = good/medium size. Rotations through 4 sites total, but all pretty close. - They have access to all Univ of Central FL resources, library, etc. They provide numerous edu resources. - Once matched, the PD reaches out soon after and goes over out future plans and makes a schedule for us that fits all the requirements for our advanced program, or that can help us match if we are only partially matched. Residents say that they are really supportive and work hard to tailor things to what you want and need. They give 3 days off for STEP 3. - Program Eval Committee - Includes 2 residents - good way for residents to give feedback. The program is very receptive to resident feedback - Resident lounge with Starbucks coffee maker and free snacks always available. Cafeteria looks decent - Have food catered from places like Chik-Fil-A, Subway, Jimmy Johns, etc. (+) Meal stipend, semi-annual (not sure of amount). - Primayr stroke center with dedicated neuromedical floor. Level II trauma center (But they essentially function as a Level I and are in the process of getting it changed). (+) Cath lab. - Dedicated resident workspace on every floor. In video, the facilities look pretty nice. - Large elderly community + its in FL, so wide variety of patients and pathology. - 3 weeks vaca and 10 sick days "accrued" over the year (??) - One of those weeks vaca is always the last week of the program, so that you have time to move/transition to your new residency. Vaca determined at beginning of year. - 4 weeks (two 2-week blocks, we don't deal with ICU pts which is nice; 4 pt cap for admissions. - Salary, $60,000 basically. - 8 weeks IM, 4 weeks surgery, 4 weeks ER, 4 weeks ICU, 19 weeks electives, 4 weeks ambulatory (super easy and chill). Wknds are 12 hour days and you do 4 wknds/year. The residents' ave schedule is 6 days a week...Trauma is the worst/hardest rotation (no pt cap) and they usually work 12 days in a row and then get 2 days off. - OVerall rating: 8.8-9/10 (Main bad thing was the schedule, also a very old population)."

"The night before, the residents did a Q&A for the interview candidates. The morning of, the program coordinator shared a little bit about the program while waiting for the Program Director to give a powerpoint presentation about the program. We then moved into a waiting room with the other candidates and had the chance to chat with each other and occasionally with the program coordinator. We interviewed with the PD, faculty and the program coordinator. "
